Charlie Sheen enters rehab

Charlie Sheen, a successful actor with work dating back to the early 80s, was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Thursday morning after a marathon drugs-n-sex binge at his home in Beverly Hills. As a result of his medical issues (it is still unclear just what those are), he has now checked into an undisclosed rehabilitation center.

This looks like it could be the ultimate culmination of a lifetime of hard living for the troubled actor, best known these days for his starring role on the sitcom ?Two and a Half Men.? While not in the news as a young man nearly as often as his counterparts like Rob Lowe and Robert Downey, Jr., Sheen seemed to save his best ?work? for his adult years.

Let?s do a quick recap:

?1990– accidentally shot Kelly Preston in the arm

?1995– revealed to be one of the ?johns? in madam Heidi Fleiss? infamous ?little black book?

?1998– overdosed on cocaine; turned in by his own father

?2006– Denise Richards divorced him, citing substance abuse and physical violence

?2009– arrested on charges of domestic violence against his third wife, Brooke Mueller

?2010– entered rehab after being rushed to a hospital following a days-long party at his home

?And those are just the highlights!

It seems to me Sheen has taken it just about as far as he can?come on, he has a porn star on television, saying she had to leave this last party because she could not keep up with him!!

Now there is a question as to whether his father and ex-wife forced him into rehab, which is not a good sign, as it has been proven time and again that rehab must be a personal choice. Just look at Lindsay Lohan.

Sheen, son of movie actor Martin Sheen and brother to fellow actor Emilio Estevez, carved out a career with dramatic roles such as those in ?Platoon? and ?Wall Street,? but really stretched his acting skills as a comedian with his popular characters on ?Spin City? and ?Two and a Half Men.? The latter is now on hiatus, producers waiting to see how this real-life drama will play out.

I would be curious to hear how readers think this stint in rehab is going to go.

  1. I fear for him. I think we’re watching someone self-destruct, much like Spears, Lohan, RDJ and many, many others. One day the headlines won’t be that he trashed a hotel room with a porn starlet but that he’s been found dead.

I hope he gets his life straightened out, because it’s getting ridiculous now. If he gets clean, it’s not like he even has to then stage a comeback like RDJ. He’s on top now, for god’s sake. He just has to not kill himself with drugs and he’s already a step ahead.

I’m not optimistic, though. He’s been down this road so many times already. He does this and still makes millions in a hit show. Consequences are often one of the biggest agents for change, and he never really faces any. I’ve listened to him talk about things like politics and government, and he’s a smart, well-spoken guy. I hope he saves himself.

  2. How is he going to stop this spiral of self-destruction when he’s getting so much positive reinforcement for behaving this way on his show. The character he plays on Two and a Half Men is a glorified version of himself, who is so well-loved that he is the highest paid actor on T.V. An addict usually has to hit rock bottom before they make changes…Sheen is being rewarded (albeit in a twisted way) for his bad behavior on a grand scale every day.
Lovable, successful, chic-magnet character on T.V. show + addictive, self-destructive personality in real-life = epic fail.

  3. I actually did not realize how far this has gone.Your observations are indeed correct. One MUST want to make an actual change for any change to occur. The above comments are spot on.
