New music from Stevie Nicks

10 years after her last solo studio album, Stevie Nicks is back with a brand new CD, In Your Dreams, which will hit stores on May 3.

Nicks, the husky-throated singer, songwriter, and member of supergroup Fleetwood Mac, has had more ups and downs than Elizabeth Taylor’s scale. In many ways the very epitome of the celebrity rock and roll lifestyle, Nicks has just about seen and done it all, and her maturity and life experience are reflected in the lyrics of her new songs.
“There are love songs, hard rock and roll songs, really contemplative songs, and very Bob Dylan-y songs,” Nicks says of the new album.

Her career began in the late-60s with the rock band Fritz, performing alongside what would become her long-term romantic partner, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. In 1975, Buckingham and Nicks joined the established British blues band Fleetwood Mac, and the group’s new sound shot them into the stratosphere of fame and success.

As she gained sex symbol status in the music world, Nicks’ personal life played out like a soap opera, with high-profile romances and affairs, heavy drug use and addiction, weight gain and loss, tragedies, breakups, and very public confrontations with fellow band members.

Discussing her song Gold Dust Woman, Nicks said, “It was my symbolic look at somebody going through a bad relationship, doing a lot of drugs, and trying to make it, trying to get through.
“Misery, drugs, lots of money, cars, self indulgent ways…it can destroy you.”

In 1997, Fleetwood Mac found themselves sober, reunited, and in the midst of a tremendous resurgence in popularity. Nicks’ solo career also saw a return to success, and both the band and the artist have remained in the public eye since.

For the new CD, Nicks teamed with Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics, ensuring a fresh, different sound. One of the strengths of her seven solo studio albums is that they each have their own distinct sound, thanks to a variety of producers and musical partners.

The first single, Secret Love, is out now.
