The funniest thing I have seen in a while

In 1971, the Brewer & Shipley hit “One Toke Over the Line” hit #10 on the charts.

Later that year, the Lawrence Welk show, in an obvious attempt to appeal to “the kids listening to that rock and roll thing so popular these days,” decided to tackle the “modern spiritual” (as Welk referred to the song).

What resulted is one of the funniest things I have ever seen posted on YouTube.

You can’t make this stuff up; sometimes the magic just happens.

Not everyone will get why this is funny, but for those that do, this will make your day.

As a bonus, here is a clip from a 1969 episode of the Lawrence Welk show, when they decided to “go hippie.”

See that clip here.

As a side note, The Telegraph’s publisher, Jim Shrader, just informed me that the accordion player at the beginning of the clip is none other than Myron Floren. If I am ever on Jeopardy and that is the Final Jeopardy question, Jim gets part of the winnings.

  1. Modern spiritual–hee! I’m surprised my grandmother didn’t have eight kind of fits, because she never missed this show. That and the hippie-themed show are absolute television gold.
