My interview with pop singer LeRoy Lamb

Dance music, bears, and the Renaissance Fair on a beach? LeRoy Lamb just happens to think it is the perfect combination!

The Canadian pop singer chose an interesting mixture of costume and location for the video to his newest single, “When Tomorrow Comes.”

“I do love going to Renaissance Fairs, so I took my Renaissance outfit and put it to good use at all these wonderful locales to try to get the idea of transporting back in time to the ‘old world,'” LeRoy said.

The performer is currently working on the full-length follow up to his debut release, 2006’s “Dancing on the Shores of Reason.”

You can check out the video for the first single from the upcoming CD, “When Tomorrow Comes,” here!

LeRoy says his love of music reaches back to his childhood.

“I loved to sing so much that even my kindergarten teacher wrote it on my report card that I took home,” he said. “I started to play the organ when I was 9 years old. In my teenage years, I joined the concert band at school. As I entered into adulthood, I migrated back to the organ as that was my favored instrument, and that turned into keyboards and synth with such wonderful texture and sound, which is what I use to write my music today.”

Born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, he also credits his mother’s love for music and her support and instruction for his success today.

While often a maligned era when it comes to music, LeRoy says the eighties also were a huge influence on his output.

Me: How did you get started creating your own music and videos?

Lamb: I started writing music when I was a teenager. Growing up in the 80’s when all genres of music were available to everyone and there was so much being produced, I was fascinated with all of the musical styles and the variety available in the pop era. I would write pop songs, parodies, and try to emulate all my favorite musical artists, but as time went on, I realized that my passion and sound was more suited to dance music and electronica.

Me: What was the inspiration for your video on YouTube?

Lamb: My love of the medieval era. Since I was in Europe at the time, I thought it would be great to film at all these old world locations and make something of a period piece video.  It was easy to find castles, ships and other things like that in Europe, but the biggest decision was which ones to go to and how far to travel…it was definitely an adventure in itself!

The video was a new idea and I’d never done one before, but after having a story line and a friend to help me record, we set off and filmed what we could. I already have the idea for the next single, but now it’s just trying to find the time and money to do it.

Me: What kind of music do you enjoy listening to in your spare time?

Lamb: I am a huge dance music, electronica, and vocal trance music fan. I also love new age, alternative, some pop/rock, and anything where the music sounds inspired and real. Artists like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Emma Hewitt, Sleepthief, Enigma, Schiller, Oceanlab, John O’Callaghan, Solarstone, Filo & Peri, Cosmic Gate, Conjure One, Marina and the Diamonds, Technoir, System Syn, Imperative Reaction, Chicane, Sean Tyas, Iris, Robyn, Gareth Emery, BT… the list goes on and on. Needless to say, I have a huge music library, and iTunes is one of my favorite places on the Internet.

Me: What are your hobbies?

Lamb: Besides writing music, I love to hike in all types of terrain. I have been hiking in the Austrian and Swiss Alps twice now and would love to go back and do it again. I love movies as well; nothing like being taken on an adventure without leaving the comfort of your own couch! I also love to travel, as you learn so much the more you see of the world. Photography has been a passion of mine…so to go with the hiking, I love doing landscape photography when I can get the chance.

Me: How can people check out your music?

Lamb: The webpage is being updated so is down for the moment.  I need to get the whole thing revamped and updated, but I will wait to put it up until I have the new CD completed.  That being said, all my music is available on iTunes, Amazon, or any of the popular download sites.  Just type my name (LeRoy Lamb) into the search field and everything will come up on my artist page.
