Beach Boy Mike Love proves his douchebaggery once again

When the surviving Beach Boys reunited for a wildly successful studio album and tour in recognition of the group’s 50th anniversary, it seemed that notorious member Mike Love‘s asshole-ism was being kept in check.

We were wrong.

In a move fucktarded even for Love, he has released a statement saying that founding members Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and David Marks would not be involved in an upcoming Beach Boys tour. “The 50th Reunion Tour was designed to be a set tour with a beginning and an end to mark a special 50-year milestone for the band,” Love said. His upcoming “Beach Boys” will reportedly include Bruce Johnston (who joined the band in 1965), Love’s son, and John Stamos (yes, THAT John Stamos).

Although Brian Wilson, the creative force of the band, the one who almost single-handedly created Smile and Pet Sounds (considered by most to be the second greatest album in music history, second only to Sgt. Pepper), the one who wrote most of the new Beach Boys CD, the one whose voice does not sound like a cat being raped (Love), is the one most consider to be the driving force of the Beach Boys, Love owns the rights to the name and has often toured by himself as “The Beach Boys.”

Love brought rap into the Beach Boys songs. He brought “Uncle Jesse” on board as an honorary member. Under this twatwaffle’s direction, the group released the worst (and worst selling) album of its career in 1992. His control issues ensured that the band spent much of the 80s and 90s holding the reputation of a shlock nostalgia act. For the last 30 years, he has alienated fans and promoters with his arrogance, insistence that he “IS” the Beach Boys, and refusal to provide promotional courtesies such as photos and autographs.

Oh, and his one song on the new BB album is the only one that sucks. Big surprise.

Wilson wrote nearly all of the group’s hits. Love doesn’t even play an instrument.

Not convinced? Check out this clip of the band under full control of Mike Love. (and check out the comments underneath the video…they are a scream!)

Now, check out what the Beach Boys create under the leadership of Wilson.

I think the music speaks for itself.

  1. I was fortune enough to meet Brian Wilson and see him during his SMILE tour. It’s unfortunate to BB fans everywhere that Love (who hasn’t been seen without a hat since 1972) is such an ass. Not everybody wants to go to Kokomo.

    1. I would think meeting Brian Wilson would be a great experience! I really am a big fan of his experimental side. And Mike Love has worn a hat since 1972 to try to hide the fact that he is a butthead.
